Instant Apps may be a Game Changer for the App Market
Android Instant Apps are native web apps
that function like websites, thus theoretically drawing more people towards it. The main idea behind Instant Apps is to make the native app experience as convenient as surfing a website. Or in other words, Instant Apps are designed to provide richer, Android native experience of an app combined with the convenience and low data usage of a mobile website. When users click on an Instant App URL, they are directly taken to the app without being installed.
The basic point of Instant Apps is the blur line between a website and an app. Web pages are short-lived; they appear, are used and are never thought about it again. Apps on the other hand have lot of friction and users want an app to perform on action and give specific information. Android Instant Apps run instantly without requiring any installations. They allow uses to experience the advantages of apps – fast, rich user interfaces, high performance and great capabilities achieved with just a single click.
Instant Apps, a new Android feature from Google, plans to bridge the gap between mobile apps and web apps by allowing users to use native apps just instantly – even when it is not installed previously but by just tapping the URL. Typically downloading and installing an app would take a while, but instant app developers have to partition their apps into small runnable parts.
When developing Instant Apps, developers need to modularize their apps so that users do not have to install the entire app just for curtain features – this is where the major data saving comes. The solution is to divide the app into different sections and load only the modules which are needed for what the user wants. Instant Apps use the same Android APIs, same project and same source code but only restricts the features like that of installation, the usage of background services, background notifications and few others.
Google believes that Instant Apps that look like websites will have higher user engagements thus increasing the time users spend on the website. This would improve the site rankings. Google knows that more people visit mobile websites than download and use the apps. Hence Instant Apps will be a method to make people access more mobile websites than they do apps.
Google is in the process of posting official documentation about Instant Apps. There are instances when an app is not needed beyond a single specific instance and hence is not downloaded by a user. To deal with this inefficiency, Google is introducing Android Instant Apps.
In a nutshell, Android instant Apps let you use apps without downloading them. The focus is mainly to make the experience as seamless as possible, The exact availability of Instant Apps for both end users and the developer community is not quite clear but Google plans to expand its features and bring it to the users by the year end.
With Instant Apps, Google is offering a great opportunity for all web and Android developers to create web apps that work and perform like their Android app equivalent. Instant App is a new initiative by Google and hopes it will change the way we interact with the web. It is one of the most exciting creations of Google!
